Godfrey Phillips, OAM, FAFA JP has been a Financial Adviser since 18th January 1977, and holds the primary leadership position in the specialist boutique Risk Management practice. He is an internationally recognized leader and speaker in the financial services industry, and holds his own Australian Financial Services Licence.
Godfrey is a Fellow of the Australian Financial Advisors Association (A.F.A.), and has served on numerous committees. In 1994, he was presented with the Lifewriter of the Year Award, “for superior performance in all fields of life.” In 2017 he was awarded the Michael Murphy Award, the Association of Financial Advisers’ highest honour in recognition of his Lifetime Achievement for extraordinary service to the Association of Financial Advisers, its members and the financial advising industry.
Godfrey is a 36 year Life and Honor Roll Member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), which is the Premier Association of Financial Professionals. He has served as an Ambassador, a Divisional Vice President, and Chair of the Leadership and Volunteer Advisory committees. The MDRT is an International Independent Association of 90,000 leading life insurance professionals.
In 2015, MDRT’s highest award for outstanding voluntary service to the MDRT in Australia was named after Russell Collins and Godfrey Phillips and named the “Collins/Phillips” MDRT Award.
At the 2019 MDRT First Ever Global Conference in Sydney he was asked by the President to carry the Flag of MDRT at the Opening Ceremony in front of 10,000 attendees. An honor for outstanding voluntary service to MDRT Globally.
In 2003, he had the privilege to be a Keynote Speaker alongside the Eminent South African heart surgeon Dr. Marius Barnard, at the World’s First Critical Illness Insurance Conference in Vancouver, Canada. Dr M Barnard introduced the World to Critical Illness Insurance, and was part of the first heart transplant medical team in South Africa in 1967.
Godfrey views his career as having the opportunity to be a “life changer”. Always working in his client’s best interest, he believes that by helping his clients with their personal plan of their financial futures, he helps to positively change their lives and the lives of those they love.
Godfrey has also been involved in Australian Hockey for over 50 years. He is a former International Player, State Men and Women’s Coach, Chairman of Selectors, and started the NSW Hockey Academy in 1985. He has also been a T.V. commentator for hockey during the Olympics, and World Series Hockey in India.
For his outstanding service to hockey in his State, he was honored with Life Membership in 1983...The youngest recipient of this prestigious Award.
In 2008 he was inducted into Sydney Hockey Hall of Fame for excellence as a player, selector and high-performance coach.
In 2021 he was awarded an OAM for service to hockey in the Queen’s Birthday Honor’s List.
Godfrey is married to Bev and has four children and seven grandchildren. “Bev is the greatest support and supporter the family has. Whether it was as the Administrator of our practice, or board and Life Member of the Sutherland Hockey club, Bev gets the job done with a minimum of fuss”. Godfrey and Bev care for his 94 year old Mother and are deeply committed to family time and supportive of their children and grandchildren’s pursuits in faith, study and sporting activities.
